Introducing In2Care® Mosquito Control Stations

Mosquito Hero is excited to announce a new service option for mosquito control: In2Care® mosquito control stations! Using new, patented technology, In2Care® stations are placed in strategic locations around your property to reduce mosquito populations without the traditional application. We sat down with Chris Lemcke, the Technical Director here at Mosquito Hero, to get his take on the In2Care® system.

Q: What excites you about the In2Care^® System?

“As soon as I saw the product, I knew there were some great possibilities here. In2Care® works in a number of ways. One way is by attracting the mosquitoes to lay their eggs right in the In2Care®  station, so the larvicide in there prevents those eggs from ever hatching. The other way is when the adult mosquito flies inside the station, its wings create a static charge that actually picks up the bio-active. The mosquito then leaves the station and carries the bio-insecticide to other places where mosquitoes live and breed. 

“This ability for the mosquito to leave the area and bring the larvicide to other areas is what gives us control of the greater mosquito population. The more In2Care® stations that are out there, the better. The more people who use it in an area with a lot of mosquitoes, the more effective it’s going to be. There’s an ability to eliminate a lot of mosquitoes to the point where you just don't see them much anymore.”

Q: How does In2Care^®fit in with Mosquito Hero’s existing services and mission?

“Our #1 mission is always to allow people to enjoy their home. You want to maximize your time outside and enjoy it. Certainly I do. But there are certain times of year when mosquitoes can be pretty vicious. No pun intended, but it sucks when you can’t sit out all night or sit by the fire because your ankles are being bit up by mosquitoes. 

“The ability to spend as much time as you can outside and to spend it with your family is really important. That’s what we’re trying to do. We’re trying to create that ability to go enjoy the outdoors without worrying about the annoyance or the itchy bumps or the possibility of spreading disease.

“In2Care® is a really, really good system. It’s a great option for us to help our customers eliminate those pesky mosquitoes once and for all.”

Q: What can you say about the In2Care^®system’s impact on the environment and pollinators?

“With our traditional applications, we do absolutely everything possible to protect pollinators. We use EPA-approved products according to their labels, and we have specific Pollinator Best Management Practices that each technician follows to ensure we are being as safe as possible and not affecting pollinators. In2Care® goes beyond that next step. It has a really good environmental profile. It’s very effective, but it’s also very safe.  It’s very, very safe for bees and monarch butterflies, but it’s also very, very safe for pets and animals. Pollinators are not going to be attracted to the In2Care® station, but even if they did get in there, the bio-larvicide isn’t going to affect them. For those who may have been concerned about traditional applications, In2Care® is a safe, effective treatment for mosquitoes that removes any concern for pollinators.” 

Q: With 2 great treatment options–our traditional mosquito control and the new In2Care^® system–how can homeowners know which option is right for them?

“There’s no right or wrong option, and we can certainly assist people in making the decision. There are cases where the traditional application is effective and there’s no need to change. But there are also properties that are difficult to treat using the traditional methods, maybe because there is not enough landscape material around for the traditional application to create a barrier. So now we have an opportunity for those homes–maybe they’re newly built or they don’t have a lot of trees or bushes or hedges. Now we can go in and place these In2Care® stations and still be effective in controlling mosquitoes, offering you that freedom of being able to use your backyard.”
